How Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Can Help You

This therapy targets the muscles that support the pelvis and help control urination, bowel movements, and sexual function. Our approach combines manual therapy, guided exercise, and tailored education to restore strength, coordination, and mobility where it matters most.

Pelvic floor chair technology is a non-invasive treatment option that gently stimulates and strengthens the pelvic muscles while you sit fully clothed in a comfortable chair. This is ideal for anyone who prefers external options or wants to enhance their care between appointments.

Common Concerns We Can Address

People often seek pelvic floor physiotherapy for challenges such as:

  • Urinary incontinence or urgency
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pain during or after intercourse
  • Menstrual pain or endometriosis
  • Lower back or tailbone discomfort
  • SI joint issues
  • Postpartum recovery
  • Pre- or post-surgical rehabilitation (including prostate or hysterectomy procedures)

What to Expect

Before Your Appointment

A few days before your visit, you’ll receive a digital intake form that includes your medical, surgical, obstetric, and sexual health history. You’ll also be able to describe the nature and location of your symptoms so your physiotherapist can prepare for your session. The forms can be emailed back or brought to your first visit.

Assessment & Exam

Your first session includes a thorough orthopedic exam focusing on your posture, hip alignment, spine, and gait. With your consent, an internal muscle evaluation may also be offered. If preferred, we can focus on external techniques or use the pelvic floor chair to begin your care.

Tailored Treatment Plan

Your physiotherapist will create a personalized treatment plan based on your assessment. This may include manual techniques to release tension or improve muscle activation, targeted pelvic floor exercises, and guidance on posture and lifestyle habits that may be contributing to your symptoms. You may also receive strategies for bladder and bowel retraining.

As part of your care, we can incorporate the pelvic floor chair to help reinforce muscle control and support your progress between sessions. The overall goal is to ease discomfort, restore function, and help you feel more confident and in control.
